Now you have brought some lovely nappies, most manufactory's recommend that you prewash them a couple of times to increase absorbancy (normally 3). If you don't do it you have to change them more frequently otherwise they will leak. Wash nappies at 30/40, you don't need to dry them in between just put washer back on. If nappies have Velcro make sure the laundry tabs are used else the nappies will get stuck together and Velcro May damage other washing. It can take between 5-10 washes to get to full absorbency however after two prewashes they will be good to go.
I have been known to skip this step if I've had to wait for a new nappy a while, they are fine to use just not as absorbent so you have to change them more often.
Washing routine
I have two different wash routines and it depends on how quickly I need the nappies to which I do. Here's my routines but do always check manufactories recommendations as some recommend lower temperatures.
Normal routine
- Rinse
- Wash at 40/60 long cycle (60 always if under 12 weeks old and 60 once a week if I've done 40 washes)
- I use an Eco egg and a scoop of Miofresh (you don't have to use miofresh or a sanitiser)
- Extra rinse cycle
- Hang on the line if possible.
- Wash at 40/60 quick wash (60 always if under 12 weeks old and 60 once a week if I've done 40 washes)
- I use an Eco egg and a scoop of Miofresh (you don't have to use miofresh or a sanitiser)
- Hang on the line if possible.
Strip washing
If your nappies don't seem as absorbent or smell you might need to strip wash them.
Here's how:-
- Wash with Eco egg or half does powder.
- If using an Eco egg remove it from the washer.
- Rinse
- Rinse (if you still see bubbles in the machine keep rinse until all gone)
About once a month you need to run your machine on the hottest wash possible with no washing in it. Add a cap of white vinegar which will clean it out. Also as I know hardly anyone does it check your filter every 3 months I found all sorts in mine. This helps your washer work better and last longer.
Stains
Do not panic if you get a stain in your nappies especially if your breast feeding. Because you don't need to waste money on potions instead read this Sunshine is magic.
